Hansen Gress has been trusted by local businesses in Juneau, Alaska to provide managed IT services since 2005; we are the oldest and largest managed services provider (MSP) in Alaska’s capital city. We have a strong commitment to client satisfaction and strive to always teach clients how to feel more comfortable and confident with their technology over time. As a result of this foundation, we are growing rapidly. Our team has expanded from 2 to 14 people in the past 6 years and we are looking to grow toward 20 in the coming years. 


Our client base has also grown dramatically and consists of some of Juneau’s most recognizable businesses, including many nonprofit organizations. We interact with a wide variety of over 70 clients, such as helicopter tour operators, arts and culture organizations, healthcare practices, breweries, movie theaters, resources for survivors of domestic violence, fish processing plants, and more. 

The Opportunity 

Hansen Gress, an IT support firm, is seeking a Network Engineer to join our team. We are looking for someone who loves solving problems, loves people and network technology, can “find solutions where no solutions exist,” and is eager to apply these skills! A great customer service personality is more important to us than an extremely technical resume. 

The position is full-time and offers flexible hours. Our company is dynamic with many opportunities for both personal and professional growth. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure seamless network functionality and experience for clients by addressing issues raised via tickets, phone calls, emails, and/or in-person consultations.

  • Address urgent networking requests as they arrive, such as resolving IP conflicts, managing DNS settings, or modifying DHCP configurations.

  • Conduct on-site visits to client offices for hands-on network diagnostics, installations, and troubleshooting.

  • Clearly articulate technical concerns to clients, ensuring they understand potential problems and the proposed solutions. Recommend improved network practices when applicable.

  • Act as project manager for installs and overhauls to business network fabric, surveillance systems, and VoIP phone systems.

  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and service providers to ensure optimal network performance and resolution of issues.

  • Research, test, and implement technologies from new vendors to ensure HG best practices stay current.

  • Provide network support during off-hours, ensuring uninterrupted network services for clients.

  • Provide help desk support for clients (see Help Desk Technician job requirements).

  • Serve on-call for HG help desk 4 - 7 times per year.

  • Other duties as necessary or designated.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Previous experience: 2 - 3 years as a network engineer or in a related role.

  • Client-centric approach: Demonstrable skills in communicating complex networking issues in layman terms; a polite, enthusiastic, and patient demeanor during interactions.

  • Analytical and problem-solving prowess: Ability to understand network architectures holistically; aptitude to pre-empt potential issues and address recurring ones. Willingness to seek help when needed.

  • Initiative: Proactiveness in managing and prioritizing network tasks and challenges. Expertise in working under tight schedules and handling critical requests.

  • Tech enthusiasm: A keen interest in the evolution of networking technologies and the potential innovations in the industry.

  • Adaptability: Resilience in a dynamic work environment; enthusiasm in aligning with a progressive business's goals.

  • Continuous learning: A zest for enhancing technical competencies with the encouragement of Hansen Gress (training and certifications provided!).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a basic background check for airport security badging

  • Driver’s license (or willingness to get one) and the ability to drive. Driver policies apply. Compensation & Benefits  

Pay is $60k-$90k per year depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, flexible scheduling policies, and coverage of mobile device plans. Additional benefits and perks are available and can be negotiated.
